Emmy award-winner and two time Golden Globe® nominee, Michael Imperioli (ABC’s “Detroit 1-8-7”, The Lovely Bones, HBO’s “The Sopranos”) is making his directorial debut with, The Hungry Ghosts, a gripping tale of derailing adults drowning in the struggles of New York City life. The film, which had its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, stars Steve Schirripa (Open Season 2, HBO’s “The Sopranos”), Aunjanue Ellis (Men of Honor), Nick Sandow (Swimfan), Sharon Angela (HBO’s “The Sopranos”), and newcomer Emory Cohen. Following its Fall-time New York City theatrical run, The Hungry Ghosts is now available on DVD through Virgil Films & Entertainment.
Named after a Buddhist metaphor for the insatiable desires of those incapable of appreciating their own surroundings, The Hungry Ghosts provides a riveting examination of the complex human condition. Viewers are introduced to the intertwining stories of five struggling New Yorkers overpowered by their thirst for mental, physical or spiritual fulfillment. Schirripa plays the lead role of “Frank,” a gambling, drug addict father who is unable to connect with his son.
The film has had numerous screenings including the Warsaw Film Festival, Berkshire International Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Producers are Diane Crespo (TV’s “Contested Streets”), Stefan Schaefer (Arranged) and Victoria Imperioli. Director Imperioli is best known for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in “The Sopranos”, recently starred in the critically acclaimed film, The Lovely Bones, and is currently starring in the upcoming ABC TV Series “Detroit 1-8-7.”
