Blossoming Into Her Own
By Tom Cadrin

Late one night at The Great Scott in Boston, there was just a girl on stage with a guitar strapped to her back and a band at her side. When that girl sang, however, this ordinary scene transformed and the air blossomed. Anna Rose, a 25 year old New Yorker, is hitting the scene with her strong alternative sense of singer-songwriter pop folk. Her recent release, Nomad, has solidified a home for her in today’s turbulent music industry. And what sets Rose above the rest? Absolute vocal control.

From the back of the bar, the guttural passion Rose poured into each melodic turn was felt and understood. Her softest notes landed on the listener with as much punch as those that were belted. Backed by her aptly named band, The Thorns, each song pushed the audience to let go ~ and with slide guitars wailing, a tumbling drum, and bass grooves, how could we not.

Nomad, released in June of 2010, ensures the complete Anna Rose experience. The landscapes one can find on the gently rolling track “Gillian” bring listeners through turmoil and return them with a bittersweet resolve. The salty bar room groove “I’ll Be Gone” gets even the stiffest cowboy boots tappin’. And opener “In The Morning View” welcomes all to the album with a mountainous chorus sure to ring in ears for days after the first listen.

It’s safe to say that Anna Rose is onto something of her own. With her build it from the ground up attitude, one can easily see ~ and hear ~ this artist’s love of her art. And in a few years, you can say you knew her when….

Look to catch Anna Rose live in the New York area this summer. Check her official site (annarosemusic.com) or her myspace (myspace.com/annarosemusic) for more information.
