There is no argument that Stieg Larsson’s best-selling Millennium Trilogy Series created a global phenomenon selling nearly 25 million novels in over 40 countries. It was just a matter of time that the film based on his wildly sensational books would create similar mass appeal. Now for the first time, home-viewing audiences can take home the most talked about film adaptation of the year with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Hailed as “mesmerizing” by USA Today and a “remarkable piece of work” by the Austin Chronicle, the disc will be packed with exciting bonus features* including interviews with lead actress, Noomi Rapace, and Director, Niels Arden Oplev; The Vanger Family Tree, and more. Music Box Films presents the DVD and Blu-ray disc premiere on July 6, 2010 for suggested retail price of $29.95 and $34.95 respectively.
As the highest grossing Swedish film in history, the film was also 2009’s highest-grossing European production. Directed by Niels Arden Oplev and starring Noomi Rapace as “Lisbeth Salander”, the film received three Swedish Guldbaggage Awards in 2009 for Best Picture, Audience Award and Best Actress in a Leading Role. It went on to receive an Audience Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature Award at Portland International Film Festival.
Taking America by storm, the riveting foreign film garnered outstanding critical acclaim throughout the country and instantly became a smash hit within the independent circuit grossing over $5 million to date. Commended as, “a stylish thriller with real complexity, people with interesting faces, a sensational actress cast as an ambisexual Goth hacker heroine” by the Wall Street Journal, and “finely plotted, stylishly photographed and brilliantly acted” by the NY Post, “compelling” by Washington Post, and “devastating, suspenseful, and satisfying” by Paper Magazine. Avid readers and fans alike flooded theatres nationwide to see what everyone was talking about.
Music Box Films will release the second installment of the film trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire in theatres nationwide on July 2, 2010.
Author Stieg Larsson was recognized as the second bestselling author in the world in 2008. The Millenium Series books include The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ~ Synopsis
Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her beloved uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) and the tattooed and troubled but resourceful computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rapace) to investigate. When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger’s are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
