Cooler temperatures are approaching, so it’s time to start thinking about fabulous fall fragrances like Dolce & Gabbana’s D&G line or Calvin Klein’s CK Free.  These and other spicier scents are more sensuous than floral summer aromas, so fall back and enjoy a boost of confidence and va-va-voom with this season’s latest fragrances ~ what better way to give yourself a boost of confidence (not to mention maybe break a few hearts with a lingering signature scent!) for the new semester!

For the Ladies:

The D&G Fragrance Anthology by Dolce & Gabbana

This “anthology” includes five fragrances: Le Bateleur 1, L’Imperatrice 3, L’Amoureaux 6, La Roue de la Fortune 10, and La Lune 18. These fragrances are considered unisex, but L’Imperatrice 3 is being called very feminine with notes of watermelon, kiwi, pink cyclamen and musk. La Lune 18 is also being touted as feminine with notes of lilac and sandalwood.

Idole d’Armani by Giorgio Armani

A “tribute to femininity,” this scent is considered a spicy floral scent. Expect notes of clementine, pear, ginger, davana, saffron, jasmine, loukoum rose, patchouli, and vetiver.

Very Hollywood by Michael Kors

Infused with mandarin, iced bergamot, wet jasmine, ylang-ylang, raspberry, gardenia, orris, creamy amber, soft white moss, and vetiver, this chic fragrance of blended flavors is meant to evoke a “sophisticated floral” and provide women with a touch of glamour.

For the Gentlemen:

CK Free by Calvin Klein

This cologne is rugged and highly masculine. With notes of absinthe, jack fruit, star anise, juniper berry, buchu, suede, coffee, tobacco leaves, iron wood, oak, patchouli, and cedar, it’s a real man’s scent.

Hot Water by Davidoff

A follow-up to Davidoff’s successful Cool Water fragrance, Hot Water is definitely more sultry ~ expect notes of absinthe, red basil, pimento, patchouli, styrax, and benzoin.

And always remember Gianni Versace’s words of wisdom: “Perfume puts the finishing touch to elegance . . . Without it there is something missing.”

Learning a little more about how a perfume or cologne is manufactured can prove advantageous; knowing a fragrance’s concentration level can ~ and should ~ influence you as a buyer. Eau de cologne, being least concentrated with perfume oil, will only last about an hour. Eau de toilette and eau de parfum will last longer than eau de cologne, but a perfume or parfum classic will last over five hours. Bottom line: a pricier perfume or cologne may hurt your bank account, but you will definitely profit from splurging on a scent.

Moreover, a perfume or cologne is comprised of “notes:” a top, middle, and base. A fragrance’s top note is your initial impression of a scent, which will only last for a couple of minutes. A middle or base note of a fragrance will emerge over ten minutes later. You may consider sampling a fragrance at a beauty counter and heading home for a  final “sniff” test.

Correctly applying a fragrance is also important because proper application will yield a better result. Pulse points like your wrist or chest will give you a stronger scent. Keep your “spritzing” to a minimum and remember the old adage, “Quality over quantity.” Lathering your skin with a moisturizer can also give your fragrance a longer lifespan.
