The Red Onion

“[Red onions seem] to mean good luck in some circles…” explained Red Onion owner Ken Buzzell, who opened the bar in Otter River, MA just over a year ago.

And lucky it certainly is! In the past year, the Red Onion has been transformed from a vacant wooden building to an innovative bar, bumping nightly with entertainment for all different flavors of personalities!

Buzzell’s vision for the newborn bar is to create an eclectic music scene that will appeal to all people in all walks of life. With acts performing Pink Floyd cover songs to eighties dance tunes and original rock numbers, the Red Oinion is sure to do just that!

“You can have spoon fed music from an Ipod anywhere in the world, but…” stated Buzzell, implying that diversity and musical novelty is what sets his bar apart from the rest.

The Red Onion hosts performers such as Tim Laroche, an acoustic guitarist and singer, Almost Heroes, a contemporary rock band, Go Gadget Go!, an eighties dance party band, Gimme Shelter, a great Rolling Stones cover band, and much more.

Music is not the only thing the Red Onion has to offer. With its classic “dive-bar” feel and casual atmosphere, the Red Onion welcomes an assortment of guests ~ doctors, college students, fellow artists ~ who cheerfully commingle to enjoy games such as Guitar Hero and the Red Onion’s infamous “dildo races” described by Buzzell as “the funniest thing you’ve ever seen.”

“[We] want to attract people who want to have a good time drinking responsibly and enjoying live music.” Buzzell proudly states that his clientele feel safe and at ease in his bar, free to enjoy all that it has to offer.

Whether it is the reasonably priced beverages or the offbeat ambiance, the Red Onion is one enterprise that is sure to appeal to all tastes and interests, making it a bar on the rise!
