But Oh, What a Fabulous Way to Go!
By Suzy Geers

Yes, Glamour Kills. It hurts. It’s fabulous but at times it’s pure pain: the stuffing of feet into six inch heels, the waxing, the diet…it decimates the wallet and can be a whole lotta work. But hark! There IS hope for budget-conscious fashionistas, and his name is Mark Capicotto, owner of and head designer for Glamour Kills, a fashion company extraordinaire that has one of the best vibes and effortlessly coooool product lines around.

First of all, 90% of the clothing is made in America (the remaining ten percent is super techy stuff that is sent abroad)! The clothes are comfortable and top-of-the-line ~ with a sprinkle of individuality.  Put them on and you get the feeling the folks who made them have a great sense of camaraderie and fun ~ and want you to be a part of it.

T-shirts, tank tops, skateboards, board shorts, bags, and accessories are loaded with eye catching colors ~ like neon pinks and turquoises, animal prints, and fun, inspirational, quirky slogans with bold letters: think the Eighties, updated!

Capicotto was born to make some noise in the world of fashion; with a passion for music and graphic design, Mark created street wear for bands and other companies and musicians. Then he one of those “light bulb moments:” he realized that all of the training, skills, blood, sweat, and skinny jeans that were going into creating someone else’s clothing line ~ could…and should!…be going into creating his own.

And so the designer and company were born.

Inspired by music, movies, and day-to-day life, Capicotto has teamed up with some of today’s most energetic and popular bands like Silverstein, Drop Dead, Gorgeous, and Hawthorne Heights. In fact, Warped Tour ticket holders, Glamour Kills has a tent aboard this awesome, decibel breaking summer tour, and it’s going to be THE place to hang. Look for Chiodos, The Maine, A Day to Remember, & All Time Low rocking Glamour Kills rags, and head over to the tent to meet the bands and get some free…yes FREE…stuff after each set.

So whether you’re off to the Warped Tour or just need to be fierce this summer without saying a word, Glamour Kills has you covered.  They’ve introduced a brand new summer line with bikinis, shorts, tanks, flips flops, and towels. Capicotto proudly declares, “This is one of my favorite lines we have come out with yet. If our past line was called ‘Eighties,’ this would be a little more ‘Nineties’ with a Glamour Kills feel!” Each piece is uniquely crafted with an edginess that screams summertime fun, adventure and attitude.  As Mark describes, “It’s a little more serious than our past lines ~ it’s bright yet dark at the same time.”  True, the colors aren’t as *kapow* as they were for previous lines, but the darker-hued background fabrics are still accentuated with lustrous, rich shapes (triangles, circles), lettering (graffiti, block print), “zebralicious” flying pig with wings, and Obama-emblazoned prints that ooze personality.

Capicotto smiles and says that if Glamour Kills has a motto, it would be “You’re not like everyone else, so why should your clothes be any different?!”

This is more…way more…than your average, run-of-the-mill Tshirt company: it is a lifestyle, a community of music, life, fashion, and American dreamers…

So the big question: where is fashion headed? Predicts Capicotto, “Everything seems to be coming back. A few years ago it was bell bottoms, now the skinny, spandex, tighter fit is back. Even plaid is back! I wouldn’t be surprised if the grungier, flannel Nineties-style makes its way back again.”
