Arts Alliance America and Arthouse Films present “The Universe of Keith Haring,” a heartwarming documentary profiling the world-renowned artist.
As soon as Keith Haring arrived in NYC during the 80s, his graffiti-style art quickly penetrated pop culture worldwide by fusing together the worlds of art and hip-hop. Haring’s exuberant images saturated landmarks across the world, making him a quintessential icon ~ all before he reached 30 years of age. In celebration of what would have been the beloved artist’s 50th birthday, Arts Alliance America and Arthouse Films are proud to present the acclaimed documentary “The Universe of Keith Haring” on DVD for the first time.
Christina Clausen’s film, an official selection at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, presents a personal glimpse into the life of Haring and features archival film footage of Haring, Madonna, Grace Jones and Andy Warhol plus interviews with Yoko Ono, Junior Vasquez, Fab 5 Freddy, David LaChappelle, Tony Shafrazi, Bill T. Jones, Kermit Oswald and many others.
“The Universe of Keith Haring” provides viewers with an amazing inside look of the prolific artist from his childhood in Pennsylvania through to his move to New York City at age 19 and up to his untimely death in 1991 at age 31. The DVD showcases Haring’s artwork as he painted on walls, floors, subway stations, murals, and beyond. Interviews with his family and closest friends plus film footage featured in the program reflect his life, his exuberant personality, and the impression he left on the world.
Combining music of the era, photo stills, and audio excerpts from interviews conducted with Haring himself, “The Universe of Keith Haring” is an exceptional program and a must-own for pop-culture fans and artists everywhere.
