10 Cocktails for St. Patrick’s Day
By Samantha Shea

The saying goes that “Everybody is Irish, at least on St. Patrick’s Day.” So what better way to start off our list of delish St. Patty’s Day drinks than with…

Everybody’s Irish

Kind of says it all, doesn’t it!

2 ounces Irish whiskey,
1 ounce green crème de menthe,
1 ounce green chartreuse.

Combine the ingredients, stir, and strain into a cocktail glass.

Bushmills O’Thentic Irish Kiss

Pucker up!

1.5 oz Bushmills Irish Whiskey
1 oz peach schnapps
2 oz orange juice
5 oz ginger ale

Build in rocks glass with ice and garnish with a wedge of lime.

The Leprechaun

2 parts Jameson Irish Whiskey
1 part peach liqueur
1 part blue curaÁao
orange juice to taste

Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass. Decorate with an orange twist.

Irish Whip

Ok, so it’s not actually made with any Irish spirits, but it turns green and it’s yummy, so what the heck…

1 oz vodka
1 oz Pernod
1 oz Cuban rum
1 oz crème de menthe
1 part 7-Up
1 part orange juice

Pour the vodka, Pernod, rum and crème de menthe into a pint glass with ice cubes. Fill with equal parts of 7-up and orange juice. Stir well.

Dublin Handshake

A great way to start a friendship…

.5 oz Baileys Irish cream
.5 oz Irish whiskey
.5 oz Sloe gin

Combine in shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into rocks glass with ice

Irish Mule

For the stubborn Irishman (or woman!)…

1.75 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
2 slices root ginger
.75 oz fresh lime juice
1 tsp brown sugar syrup
1.75 oz ginger beer
Lime wedge and sprig of mint

Place slices of ginger at the bottom of a shaker glass. Mash them against the sides (that’s called “muddling”) and add sugar, lime juice, and whiskey. Shake. Strain and serve over ice in a highball glass. Top with ginger beer, a wedge of lime and a sprig of mint.

Shamrock Shaker

Very festive!

1.5 oz Kahlua
2.5 oz milk
.5 oz Amaretto
edible green and gold powder for garnish (found at cake-decorating
supply stores)

Pour the ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes. Shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Sprinkle the green and gold powders on the top.

Irish Flag Shooter

Very sophisticated.

1 ounce green crème de menthe
1 ounce Irish cream liqueur
1 ounce Grand Marnier

Pour into a cordial glass and watch the layers form.

Erie Tour

About as Irish as it gets…

1/3 part Irish Mist Irish Liqueur
1/3 part Carolans Irish Creme
1/3 part Irish whiskey

Serve over ice.

Irish Dream

Perfect for dessert (Hello, there is no such thing as dieting on St. Patty’s Day!).

.5 oz Irish cream liqueur,
.5 oz hazelnut liqueur,
.5 oz brown crème de cacao
1 scoop of vanilla ice cream

Combine all ingredients in a blender with ice.

Once you’ve selected your cocktail (or 2…or 3), the most important thing to remember (aside from not drinking and driving) is a traditional Irish toast:

“May the dust of your carriage wheels blind the eyes of your foes.”
“May you live as long as you want, And never want as long as you live.”
“May your fire never go out.”
“May your well never run dry.”
