The Morocco opens. The Morocco, located in the spot that once housed Anthony’s restaurant at 172 Shrewsbury St. in Worcester, opened the first week in November and serves authentic Middle Eastern food. Saade Saade, the owner, did an admirable job redecorating the place, so it now has a warm Middle Eastern feel to it. He hopes to open a Hookah lounge in a separate space shortly.

And Mezcal too. Mezcal, a Southwestern Tequila bar and Restaurant, opened it doors in the middle of November. Mezcal may be located next door to Morocco on Shrewsbury St., but it is an ocean away in terms of flavors. This is Worcester’s first upscale Southwestern/ Mexican restaurant. In addition to fine food, they offer over 100 Tequilas. Mezcal is brought to you courtesy of Michael Covino and company, the same folks who own Block 5 & Bocado. Marcio Borges, who previously worked at the 111 Chop House, is manning the range.

Pleasant Street Grille has new owners. The Pleasant Street Grille at 438 Pleasant St. in Worcester was recently purchased by the Weagle family and renamed Weagle Family Dining. The eatery is owned by Matt Weagle, a pitcher for the Worcester Tornadoes, and his father Dan. Matt’s brother Dan is also involved in the family enterprise. Now you know what they do in the off season.

Breakfast with Santa. A few places in the area will be offering Breakfast with Santa specials during the month of December. Chief among them is Worcester’s Beechwood Hotel, which will host the breakfast on Dec. 9, 16, & 23. In addition to a special Buffet for Children which is priced at $11 (kids under 5 free), they will have performances by the Shrewsbury High School Choir. The kids all get free gifts plus their picture with Santa. The Publick House in Sturbridge also hosts a breakfast with Santa on Dec. 1, 2, 8 & 9.

TiNoVo sold. It looks like the building and space that once housed the TiNoVo Restaurant on Worcester’s Pearl St. will soon have new owners. According to the rumor mill, a group of investors headed by former Kangaroo Crossing owner Bill Bibaud has purchased the building. They do plan on keeping a restaurant at the location.

Joey’s Lounge to open. Joseph Comferti will be opening Joey’s Lounge at 275 Shrewsbury St. The Lounge will be located in the space that once housed Bottoms Up, across the street from both the Flying Rhino and Jeff’s.

SIB Restaurant is the new Indian restaurant that will be located at 142 Green St. (across from Block 5) in Worcester’s Canal District.

Val’s new look. Val’s restaurant in Holden recently reopened after a short closing for renovations. In addition to the new look, Val’s is also sporting a new menu. Owned by Valerie James, Val’s has been a Holden fixture for years.
