The MB Lounge

New but Familiar Owner keeps the Atmosphere Alive

By Brian Goslow

December 2006 –Marc Guinette, the new owner of the MB Lounge, 40 Grafton Street, is no stranger to the Worcester landmark, which proudly flies the rainbow flag alongside I-290. He purchased the club ~ which is open 7 days a week from 3 p.m. to 2 p.m.~ from David Marshall, who opened it with two partners 33 years ago. “This was his little baby,” says Guinette, a 26 year MB veteran. “He wanted to keep it going the way it’s always been.”

And that “way” is a warm place for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders and straights. “It’s a neighborhood bar with a friendly atmosphere,” says Guinette.

Along with partner Scott Hurley (the two married three years ago) and the MB staff, he’s refurbished the bathrooms, pool tables, and lights. Four pianists take turns perform on Sunday nights; high-def plasma TVs welcome sports enthusiasts. An ongoing pool tournament continues every Thursday night with a $5 entry fee. Weekly karaoke and movie nights are on the horizon (watch mblounge.com for details) and the MB Motorcycle Club meets on Jan. 28th.

Longtime employee Kenny McCormick decorates to the max for the holidays. “He comes with the license, as far as I’m concerned,” Guinette says, inviting everyone to MB’s Christmas party, Christmas Eve buffet, and gigantic New Year’s Eve Party.
