The Express Yourself Coffeehouse, 2 Richmond Ave. (right off of Pleasant Street), hosts an open mic every Monday night at 7 p.m. Located at the former site of the Coffee Kingdom, the cozy room provides free wi-fi access ~ along with plenty of baked treats, ice cream, and endless java ~ so that you can download the words to that song you’ve always meant to perform for your friends. The festivities are hosted on alternative weeks by Geo Poor and “Cowboy” Matt Hopwell.

Now in its third year, the Red Door Coffee House at the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest, 140 Pearl Street (above the Danforth Museum), Framingham, has expanded to two nights a month. “We do an open mic with a feature performer,” says host Tom Driscoll. “Yours truly and the open mic players generally play first, then the feature goes on about nine.” Interested performers sign up prior to the show ~ names are then drawn randomly for the night’s order. “We usually do one song ~ or the poetic equivalent ~ before the feature,” Driscoll says. Susan Levine will be in the spotlight on November 3 while John Gerard does the honors on November 17. “Often the die-hards stick around after the feature to do an additional round or two of a song circle.” Red Door shows start at 8 p.m.; admission is $8 with refreshments provided by Panera Bread.

Mill Street Brews at the Artist Development Complex, 18 Mill Street, Southbridge, hosts both an open mic and a dart league every Wednesday night. For more details, call (508) 764-6900.
