Up & Comers: Goofy Foot

Bands You May Not Have Heard of Yet…But You Will!

July 2005 – “Hey, are they playing bluegrass?” Perhaps a “newbie” coming to see and hear Goofy Foot for the first time might be surprised to hear such folksy styling, but for fans of the band it’s the norm not to know exactly what kind of music they’ll be getting next. Goofy Foot’s eclectic mix of musical styles comes together to form a sound that, according to bassist Dave Bruni, “is a combination of funk, soul, jazz, rock, bluegrass, and a little bit of world beat.”

Although the band has been playing at Tammany Hall since ‘97, it isn’t until recently that they put their “right” foot forward (their skate/snowboarding position namesake!) and began recording a new album that’s due out at the end of this year.

In addition to Bruni on bass, the four-man collaboration also stars Aaron Martin on drums and vocals, Jeremy Martin on lead vocals and guitar, and Brooks Milgate on keyboard and vocals. Because music is as much about the crowd’s spirit as it is about the performers’ talent, I asked Dave what GF’s ideal crowd experience would be. Without hesitation he responded that they would like to be playing medium to large festival gigs in the near future, gigs where they could really feed of off the crowd’s energy and meet audience members from all over. In the meantime, before they land that first festival, the band is busy building an enthusiastic fan base in the local club scene with their diversely harmonic set lists.

Check out Goofy Foot at Tony’s Pub, 44 Hamilton St. in S’bridge, on July 15th.
