On the Mic

Before you make your plans for the weekend, check out these club openings and renovations!

June 2005 – The former Rack-n-Roll in Marlborough has been transformed into an upscale dance club with a relaxed feel. The inside has been completely renovated and remodeled~ Excitement and sophistication, that’s what this new club plans to bring to Central MA! The new Speakers club, 19 Weed Street in Marlborough, is preparing for its July grand opening. DJs will spin DVDs instead of CDs, “showing” each song on six monitors and two projectors. The stools from Rack-n-Roll’s bar have been replaced by a lounge area with tables and low, padded seating (very comfortable!). Specialty drinks and select appetizers will be served alongside complimentary hors d’oeuvres and coffee. Brazilian Dance Night takes over every Sunday and look for other on-going events to be posted soon.

Also new to the scene – replacing The Art Bar at 90 Commercial Street in Worcester – is Voodoo, a hip dance club with cool drinks and an exotic style that defies definition. Its doors opened in mid-May, but don’t miss the grand opening on June 4th!
The club features pure hiphop on Wednesday nights, sets aside Thursdays for College Night, and gives its 18+ Friday nights an international flare. Check out www.voodooworcester.com to get a feel for what Voodoo is all about!
This ain’t your Daddy’s Jeep ~ Summer Jeep Jamm ’05. This first annual 4×4 extravaganza is already attracting a lot of attention for its combination of killer Jeeps (from those mud-covered monsters that can climb the side of mountain without breaking a sweat to the tricked-out pretty-boys with their fancy lights and mind-bending sound systems) and killer good will. With proceeds benefiting the MS Foundation, Families of War, and local animal shelters, this celebration of all things Jeep (although all 4 x 4s are welcome!) promises to One of the mud monster be one of the best (and best-intentioned!) parties of the summer. Featuring Jeep competitions like Tug-o- War, Best Sound System, Best Lights and Electrics, Best Girl’s Rig, Highest Jeep, Best Custom Jeep, and a Dry Riverbed Crossing, there’ll be Cash and Prizes, Swap Meet Tables, Dealer Areas, and Food, Drink and Music, rain or shine. Sunday, June 12, 9am-9pm (7am checkin time for event participants) at the Singletary Rod and Gun Club, 300 Sutton Ave, Oxford.
