No Easter hunt is complete without everyone’s favorite egg-shaped candy – the jelly bean!  The exact origin the jelly bean is still a mystery but can be traced back to pre-Biblical times.  The soft center is said to be of descent of a Mid-Eastern confection, Turkish Delight.  The outer shell coating was invented in 17th-century France and was first used to create jordan almonds.  After that, the jelly bean journeyed to the states in 1861 from William Shaft.  Shaft, a Boston candy-maker, encouraged families to send the beans to soldiers during the Civil War.
