Remember those tri-colored friendship bracelets everyone used to rock? You know, the ones everyone made at sleepovers? WPI student Hailey DiSpirito is bringing back these classic bracelets ~ but with a modern twist!

What makes her friendship bracelets different from the originals? Instead of the usual line patterns, Hailey weaves in intricate patterns like words, shapes, and popular characters into her bracelets. From someone’s name to a popular cartoon character ~ you name it, Hailey can create it!

“I usually get inspiration from people who want [the bracelets], and they end up mostly being video game related, or geeky things,” Hailey explains. Super Smash Bros. characters are a huge fan-favorite!

Hailey first got the idea to create these unique bracelets two years ago when she saw someone wearing a friendship bracelet that she had never seen before. With the help of pattern templates, Hailey has created bracelets with more than 50 different patterns and designs ~ and multiples of each one! Keep in mind that the time to make each bracelet varies on the size and complexity of the design, but on average, each bracelet takes between four to six hours to create. Clearly, patience is key!

What’s Hailey favorite creation? “My favorite is probably a three-way tie between Pikachu, Captain Falcon, and Princess Peach,” she laughs.
